CAPABLE LEADERS

Developing confident and effective organisational leaders, from executives to supervisors

We offer a range of executive and leader development options, all of which are tailored to the context of the organisation. All of our offerings are based on our multi-level approach to adult learning and include learning opportunities in workshops or individual sessions, as well as learning by doing, through application on the job supported by a range of suitable internal and external mechanisms. The ability to demonstrate the impact of the development is essential in achieving a return on the investment.

Our leadership development framework identifies three key dimensions of effective leadership:

Leadership of self

This includes supporting leaders to development the self awareness and skill to manage themselves in challenging situations. This also includes supporting the leader to develop their style and impact, clarify their personal aspirations and values, and position themselves to pursue their career aspirations.

Leadership of others

This includes supporting leaders to deepen their awareness of the dynamics of interpersonal relationships, and to build their capability to managing themselves in interactions with others. This also includes developing effective language and communication styles, and being capable of engendering an environment that builds trust and confidence amongst people.

Leadership of the business

This includes supporting leaders to think and act strategically, to design and manage change initiatives systemically, and become more aware of the critical role they play in developing and maintaining organisational culture. This also includes supporting leaders to review and develop their management processes, including opportunity identification, decision making, planning and implementation in a way that builds ownership by staff, accountability and clarity of focus.

To focus and add depth to the development, we often introduce diagnostic and pshychomentric tools

Executive coaching

We offer short and long term coaching programs meeting with either of our experienced coaches: Dr Vicki Vaartjes or Dr Steve Smith. The sessions can include a range of feedback, psychometric and diagnostic tools to bring focus to the coaching. Our coaches are guided by the professional ethics as defined by the International Coach Federation.

Executive coaching is described as:

"a helping relationship formed between a client who has managerial responsibility in an organisation and a consultant who uses a wide variety of behavioural techniques and methods to assist the client to achieve mutually identified set of goals..."(R.R. Kilburg, 2000)

Our coaching approach is characterised by:

A client and context driven "learning agenda" that is established early in the relationship

Identification and deep exploration of development goals and priorities, often with the help of diagnostic and psychometric tools

A tailored coaching program, on a regular or just-in-time basis extending over weeks, months or years that encourages and builds accountability for putting learning into action

Action-learning based leader development programs

Breaking down silo's, building trust, engendering followership and getting results are fundamental to effective leadership. Our multi-level approach to leader development highlights the value of including a supportive application process as part of any leadership development initative. It is though application that the development investment starts to generate a return for the organisation.

Our programs include "hot house" workshop events to faciltiate intensive learning and engagement, backed up by action learning to encourage leaders to apply what they are learning to create results in their areas of responsibility. Our programs are designed to fit the context and developmental needs of the client.

Programs can be developed for leaders from across an organisation or leadership teams. Please contact us for more details.
