People Solutions to Complex Problems

by Alan Woodward

As we enter the new millennium and reflect on the times in which we live, many of the problems and issues we face seem unsolvable.

Often it is not the technical aspects that prevent progress. It is our inability to get various individuals or parties to work together in a way that enables good decision making and facilitates effective implementation of chosen directions.

In our recent overseas work in Thailand and Canada we have seen the challenges facing the public sector in Asia and community services in Canada. We have been fortunate to play a part in helping organisations in these countries address the vital “people solutions” to their problems. More locally, we have been involved the use of a ‘Citizens Jury’ for social planning at Wollondilly Shire Council - an innovative way of getting people involved in local issues (The Jury is 'In').

Twyford Consulting provides people based consultancy advice and assistance for organisations/clients who need to make better decisions, become more profitable, manage change or pursue new business opportunities.

I personally, and my colleagues at Twyford Consulting, are committed to finding ways for people to work cooperatively and effectively together, in organisations and in the broader community.

We seek to share the experiences, information and insights we have gained through our work through this newsletter. We often discover that the issues one client organisation is facing are similar to those that others are grappling with. We also find that trends emerge across similar organisations that may help in solving particular problems.
